CONSULTATION

Do I need a consultation if I know exactly what I want?

It is always recommended to have a consultation first to discuss what you want to achieve and your expectations. We can then tailor them accordingly with the treatments that we have. Sometimes, a combination of treatments may be required to achieve best results. The appropriate treatment options will be discussed, along with the potential benefits and risks to ensure you are fully informed before going ahead with any procedure.

How much does a consultation cost?

A consultation for dermal fillers in Manchester costs £150 but this is redeemable and deducted from your treatment fee if you decide to go ahead with it.

DERMAL FILLERS

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural skin component. It attracts and retains water to keep the skin plumped and soft. In dermal fillers, hyaluronic acid comes in the form of a gel.

What brands of fillers do you offer?

We offer two leading brands of fillers which are Juvederm and Teosyal. Specific types of fillers within the range are used based on the area treated and your individual needs.

Can I have treatments on the same day?

If you are new to us, we recommend a consultation first followed by the treatment at a separate visit. If you have had treatments with us before, we can perform treatments on the same day.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Dermal Filler results vary among individuals and the type of filler used. Generally, they can last from 6 months up to 18 months.

What are the main risks that I need to know about?

Common side effects are redness and swelling at the injection points. They can take a few hours to a few days to settle down. There is always a risk of bruising with any injection into the skin. Rarer risks include lumps, allergic reactions, infections and skin necrosis (blockage of blood vessels by fillers). There are early signs to recognise these risks, and they will be discussed at your consultation. Hyaluronic-acid fillers are reversible, and potential adverse outcome can be minimised if you are aware of what to watch out for after treatment.

What does the pre- and post- procedure care involve?

We generally recommend avoiding taking ibuprofen, aspirin or supplements that can thin your blood a day or two before your treatment to minimise the risk of bleeding during the procedure and thereby reducing the risk of a bruise. After filler treatment, we recommend avoiding alcohol and vigorous exercise for a few days to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.

ANTI WRINKLE INJECTIONS

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are treatments using a chemical substance which temporarily relaxes the muscle, thereby reducing the formation of wrinkles.

How do anti-wrinkle injections work?

Anti-wrinkle injections temporarily block the release of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a chemical substance that is released from nerve endings. It transmits signals to the muscle and causes the muscle to contract. By blocking the release of acetylcholine, the muscle is not able to contract fully. As the muscles do not move, the overlying skin stops forming creases. Over a few months, the muscles form new receptors and start to contract again.

Are they safe?

The chemical substance within anti-wrinkle injections has been used for various medical reasons such as to treat muscle spasms since the 1980s. Its cosmetic value was first discovered by an ophthalmologist who injected the treatment to the eye muscles. For cosmetic reasons, the treatments are in much smaller units. Treatments are safe if they are delivered by a trained, qualified practitioner.

When will I see an effect?

Anti-wrinkle treatments usually take 2 to 5 days to take effect, and the full effect is usually seen after 2 weeks.

How long do the effects last for?

Anti-wrinkle treatments can last from 2 to 6 months. The average patient sees results last about 3 to 4 months.

When is the best time to have anti-wrinkle treatments?

The best time to consider anti-wrinkle treatments in Manchester is when you begin to notice lines forming on your face even when you are not showing any expressions, or moving your facial muscles. These are called static lines. They usually happen in the 30s, but can vary from person to person depending on the individual’s genetic and lifestyle factors. Once the static lines are deep, it is difficult to soften them with anti-wrinkle injections and other additional treatments are often needed to improve their appearance. Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to prevent the formation of static lines, by treating them early even before these lines start to form on the skin.

How is the treatment given?

Anti-wrinkle injections in Manchester are given by small syringes with microfine needles. Several injection points are made into the skin overlying the target muscles.

What are the side effects?

As the treatments have temporary effects, the side effects also tend to be temporary. Most commonly, there is some redness and swelling at the injection points immediately after treatment, which usually settle down after 1 hour. Bruising can occur and may take a few days or weeks to heal. Some people can have headaches or flu-like symptoms which usually improve with simple painkillers such as paracetamol.

What should I avoid after the treatment?

Avoid touching the treated areas for at least 2 hours post-treatment to reduce the risk of infections. Avoid exposure to excessive heat such as the use of steam and sauna rooms, sunbeds and vigorous exercise for 24 to 48 hours post-treatment as these activities may potentially reduce the effectiveness of treatment.

PROFHILO

How many treatments will I need?

So you achieve the best results possible, it is essential that you have two treatments with a four-week interval in between. You will see the best possible outcome after your second treatment. Your expert dermatologist will discuss this with you during your consultation.

What is the difference between Profhilo and Fillers?

Profhilo is made up of 100% hyaluronic acid, while fillers tend to have other components to bind the hyaluronic acid molecules together. Fillers tend not to migrate in the skin, as it is used to augment certain features such as the lips, cheekbones, jawline etc. Profhilo on the other hand, is designed to spread in the skin to improve hydration and boost collagen and elastin production.

What aftercare is needed?

There is no downtime required for this procedure and you can continue with your daily activities after your treatment. However, we do advise that you avoid wearing makeup, going swimming or doing any strenuous exercise for 24hours after your appointment. This will be outlined prior to your treatment.

What results can I expect from this treatment?

After you have undergone both sessions of your Profhilo treatment, you are likely to notice that your skin is more hydrated and firmer. Your skin texture will also be improved. Fine lines and crepey skin should be far less noticeable.

What does the procedure involve?

During the treatment, your dermatologist will inject the product superficially in the skin using a fine needle. Profhilo is injected into five specific points of the face or neck (depending on the treatment area), called the Bio Aesthetic points. Once the product has been injected, it will distribute itself throughout the face and not stay localised to the injection sites. We can offer a topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.

What do I expect to see immediately after treatment?

Mild swelling and redness at the injection sites, which tend to resolve within 1-2 days. Bruising is a rare possibility. If bruising occurs, it can take 2-3 weeks to clear away. You will not see the results immediately after treatment.

How long do the results of Profhilo last?

The effects of the Profhilo treatment last between 4-6 months after your second treatment. To maintain the results it is recommended that you schedule a repeat appointment every 9-12 months.

How long does the treatment take?

Your treatment time will be around half an hour. As mentioned, you should normally be able to return to your daily activities straight after with no downtime required.
